The 2008 Presidential Election was the 56th quadrennial presidential election in american history, held on November 4, 2008 to decide the next president of the United States. Unfortunately, People chose Illinois Senator Barack Obama over more experienced Arizona Senator John McCain. We had to live four years of under communism because of this election, and had to spend four more years under communism thanks to the 2012 election.
During the 2008 election, the Great Recession happened. Liberals believed that President (at the time) George W. Bush was the blame for the recession. so they elected Obama, which made the recession worse.
Republican Primary Edit
Although George W. Bush's presidential term was up and almost everyone hated him, he didn't run for a third term. Many Republicans ran for the presidency, such as Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. But none of them could defeat former War Hero and Arizona Senator John McCain. John McCain won the Republican Primary and was made the 2008 Republican Nominee.
Democratic Primary Edit
The Democratic Primary was against former First Lady and New York Senator (at the time), Hillary Clinton and Illinois Senator (at the time), Barack Obama. At first, Clinton was leading in most polls before Obama announced his bid to run for president. But, Obama narrowly defeat Clinton in the Primary. Clinton wasn't that mad about it and endorsed Obama. Hillary Clinton would win the Democratic Nomination against Bernie Sanders in 2016 Democratic Primary, but later lose the General to Republican Nominee Donald Trump.
Running Mates Edit
Barack Obama's Running Mate was Joe Biden, US Senator of Delaware and John McCain's Running Mate was Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska.
Democrat Obama/Biden won 365 electoral votes and Republican McCain/Palin won 173 electoral votes.
